Palin Derangement Syndrome: It’s Getting Ugly

In an effort to catalog and document this recent outbreak of PDS, I am attempting to gather some choice quotes [especially from reporterettes and Hollowood bimbos] and put faces to the smears. My hope is that this could act as a prophylactic for those at greatest risk to the condition. So many have suffered. Its time that we take action to stop the spread of this horrendous condition.

This is a work in progress and any quotes and stories would be appreciated. Just drop your items in a comment. Thanks for your help in eradicating this debilitating disease.

PDS in the Media:

Froma Harrop displays more PDS in one article than most “journalists” did during the entire campaign.  From Claiming the perceived “anti-elitist” persona was a phony , calculated front created by Palin for the campaign to divining Palin’s future motives on Sen. Ted Stevens Senate Seat.  Indeed , Harrop , suggests that Palin’s evil scheme to install herself in the senate was foiled now that Stevens appears to have lost his election.

In addition, Harrop is months behind the curve on the debunked lies and rumors spread about Palin.   No matter, just keep repeating the same lie again and it will become true to a large enough percent of the population.

Many Republicans were understandably irked by this use of their campaign contributions. For others, the only complaint was the hypocrisy factor — the “anti-elitist” cleaning out the designer racks at Saks and Neiman Marcus.

For many of us, the night terror of Palin being second in line to become president is gone. We can think straight again. And so can Republican leaders.  They gallantly withheld overt criticism but offered enough faint praise to sink any of her lingering ambitions for 2012.

Keith Olbermann spawn and recipient of the MSNBC Sinecure Chair for Left Wing Moonbats, Rachel Maddow:

Copyright Paul Shoul

Palin “said that the commander-in-chief for our side in the Iraq War is a mighty general who’s

initials are G-O-D.”

“What Sarah Palin believes religiously isn’t really any of our business. What she needs to be asked about, what we need to figure out whether it’s worth worrying about is whether she thinks that God is directing her public policies, whether she believes in the separation of church and state, whether she believes that she has been elected to public office in order to do the will of her religion and if God is speaking through her. Then I think there’s cause to worry.”

“When you say that you can pray away the gay, what that does is it terrorizes gay people. And it makes people who hate gay people feel better about hating gay people, because really all they’re doing is hoping for the salvation, which could so easily be achieved by just the right titrated amount of prayer.”

And if God really is working on this stuff, wouldn’t God be better at it than God has apparently been? I mean, if God prefers Sarah Palin’s specific Alaska pipeline idea, why hasn’t construction started? You think that God could just, like, zip, zip, you know.’s Cintra Wilson:

I confess, it was pretty riveting when John McCain trotted out Sarah Palin for the first time. Like many people, I thought, “Damn, a hyperconservative, fuckable, Type A, antiabortion, Christian Stepford wife in a ‘sexy librarian’ costume — as a vice president? That’s a brilliant stroke of horrifyingly cynical pandering to the Christian right. Karl Rove must be behind it.”

But ideologically, she is their hardcore pornographic centerfold spread, revealing the ugliest underside of Republican ambitions

Sarah Palin is a bit comical, like one of those cutthroat Texas cheerleader stage moms. What her Down syndrome baby and pregnant teenage daughter unequivocally prove, however, is that her most beloved child is the antiabortion platform that ensures her own political ambitions with the conservative right. The throat she’s so hot to cut is that of all American women.

I did not think that women being downgraded to second-class, three-holed chattel would be a pressing concern in my lifetime. I thought it was like polio, or witch burning — an inhumane error that had already been corrected. But after eight years of Republican hegemony, and now the potential ascendance of this sheep in ewe’s clothing, I am so mortally offended I feel like it is really time for women to be angry, hardcore and disgusted again. Not just with old white Christian patriarchs and their hopelessly calcified, religiously condoned misogyny, but also with the self-abnegating, submissive female Uncle Tommies whose ambitions and eagerness to please the powerful males of their tribe are so desperate that they would sell out their sovereignty over their own bodies.

Sarah Palin is the White House bunny — the most nauseating novelty confection of the evangelical mind-set since Southern “chastity balls,” wherein teen girls pledge abstinence from premarital sex by ceremonially faux-marrying their own fathers.

Sarah Palin and her virtual burqa have me and my friends retching into our handbags. She’s such a power-mad, backwater beauty-pageant casualty, it’s easy to write her off and make fun of her. But in reality I feel as horrified as a ghetto Jew watching the rise of National Socialism.

Mary Mitchell, Chicago Sun-Times:

Sarah Palin makes me sick. I hate that she was able to steal Barack Obama’s mojo just by showing up wearing rimless glasses and a skirt.

Sarah Palin makes me sick — not because she may speak in tongues — but because she is a fast talker.

Palin’s extreme views on abortion (she once said she would be against her daughter having an abortion even in the case of incest or rape) and her support of abstinence-only programs should make her a laughingstock to feminists.

Instead, she’s a star.

That ought to be enough to make any true feminist sick.

[Addressed to Rush Limbaugh, whom she called that fat drug addict and the epitome of white privilege. Oct 10, 2008]

There are people ahead of you who can’t stomach the idea that I can say Sarah Palin makes me sick.

She does.

The potential elevation of Palin into the second-highest position in the country shows that we have finally sunk as low as we can go.

It didn’t matter that she is probably the most inarticulate politician ever to step up to the microphone. She had the right amount of quirkiness and naughtiness to draw in the “American Idol” and reality TV crowd.

I get it.

But I have a voice, too. And all of Limbaugh’s bluster and all the calls of his rabid followers won’t be enough to silence me when bigoted bullies are running amuck.

Besides, I’m not running for VP. Limbaugh’s sorry-ass Palin is.

Eleanor Clift admits that the media does [did] not take Sarah Palin seriously:

“If the media reaction is anything, it’s been literally laughter in many places…In very, very many newsrooms.”

It’s Palin who is on the far right of the ideological axis that governs so much of our political debate.

it seems churlish to raise such pesky issues as her belief that global warming is not man-made and her opposition to abortion without exception for rape and incest. The Obama campaign better hurry up and draw the contrast before America falls in love with the hockey mom.

Media Neanderthal, Helen Thomas:

She is literally a rifle-toting mama, against sex education and has attempted to ban books she considers immoral from her hometown library.

Palin’s evangelical rigidity on social issues puts her out of step with the modern woman. [editor’s note: Helen Thomas is the epitome of “modern woman”]

Palin’s gubernatorial tenure in Alaska is personified by massive firings when she took office. She does not tolerate dissent and shuns the media.

In addition to her lack of experience, Palin — governor of Alaska for two years — carries a lot of unexpected baggage: Bristol, her 17-year-old unmarried pregnant daughter, plus a gubernatorial ethics problem for ordering a public safety commissioner to sack her ex-brother-in-law who had been involved in a divorce battle with her sister.

Author, Naomi Wolf is showing a severe case of late stage PDS. She has fallen into a state of absolute paranoid delusion:

Please understand what you are looking at when you look at Sarah “Evita” Palin. You are looking at the designated muse of the coming American police state.

I realized early on with horror what I was seeing in Governor Palin: the continuation of the Rove-Cheney cabal, but this time without restraints.

I heard her tell George Bush’s lies

She uses mafia tactics against critics, like the police commissioner who was railroaded for opposing handguns in Alaskan battered women’s shelters

Palin […] is the FrankenBarbie of the Rove-Cheney cabal.

I believe the Rove-Cheney cabal is using Sarah Palin as a stalking horse, an Evita figure, to put a popular, populist face on the coming police state and be the talk show hostess for the end of elections as we know them.

Under the Palin-Rove police state, citizens will be targeted with state cyberterrorism.

Canadian Ice-Queen, Heather Mallick:

McCain chose Sarah Palin to secure the “white-trash vote”.

“No, she isn’t even female really.” Palin has a toned-down version of the porn actress look favoured by this decade’s woman, the overtreated hair, puffy lips and permanently alarmed expression. Bristol has what is known in Britain as the look of the teen mum, the “pramface.”

Cynthia Tucker fro AJC:

Don’t be fooled by Palin. She’s just a fresh face to rev up the culture wars. She opposes abortion, even in cases of rape and incest; she urged an Alaska librarian to ban books; she believes “creationism” should be taught in public schools; she asked ministry students at her former church to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it “God’s will.”

In choosing her, McCain caved in to the rigid Christianists who now form the core of the GOP.

Anita Creamer of SacBee

Parents are supposed to protect their children rather than exploit them for their own purposes. Sure, and there’s the fact that Palin also cut funding for a program for teen mothers in Alaska. [Not True – Palin increased funding by 354%. The WaPo called that a cut because someone wanted 454%. No retraction yet. ]

But the same social conservatives who have happily applauded the Palins for resolving their private family dramas in a way acceptable to the movement – as if Bristol Palin were a teachable moment instead of teenager dragged into the public eye – would also like to deny everyone else the freedom to decide what’s best for themselves and their families.

So to me, the deepest hypocrisy is that of a political movement that devotes itself to intruding on people’s personal lives and most intimate decisions, yet whose members now act shocked that anyone would dare dispute the Palin family’s moral judgment.

You reap what you sow.

Catherine Zeta Jones’ Fluffer, Maureen Dowd:

a Cinderella story so preposterous it’s hard to believe it’s not premiering on Lifetime. Obama may have been president of The Harvard Law Review, but Palin graduated from the University of Idaho with a minor in poli-sci and worked briefly as a TV sports reporter.

Sarah is a zealot, but she’s a fun zealot. She has a beehive and sexy shoes, and the day she’s named she goes shopping with McCain in Ohio for a cheerleader outfit for her daughter.

Bitter MoDo whines again:

the first pure Rovian Republican, grown totally in the petri dish of cultural crusaderism.

And Palin spends so much time ostracizing reporters who might quiz her on NATO or the liquidity crunch that her press strategy is beginning to smack of Putin’s

Washington Doyenne, Sally Quinn:

I’ve been a working mother for 26 years and practically every friend I have is a working mother and works full time. So, uh, I think we are so far beyond that issue of whether women should work or not, in — uh, certainly in your world and my world. But in the world of evangelicals, that’s not the case. Women are supposed to be subservient to their husbands and they are meant to be stay-at-home moms. And women, in fact, are not allowed to be pastors in the Southern Baptist church.

It’s one thing to have one or two or three children, especially if they’re healthy children, and everyone knows that women and men are different and that moms and dads are different and that women — the burden of child care almost always falls on the woman. But I think when you have five children — one a four-month-old Down syndrome baby, and a daughter who’s 17 who’s also a child and who is going to need her mother very much in the next few months and years with her own baby coming — that I don’t see how you can not make your family your first priority.

PDS in Hollowood:

Susan Sarandon:

Well, she doesn’t believe in evolution, and I think that’s a very serious clue. Ed Harris predicted that she’s going to be a really big footnote in the annals of moose hunting, and I hope that’s as far as she goes, because, quite frankly, she’s scary.

John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate was divisive and cynical.

Forget the fact that she’s inexperienced — her views are so limiting that they set the women’s movement back years. It infuriates me that the conservatives are using a woman to defeat all of the progress we’ve made, and I think it’s especially scary for young people because there’s no way we can stay on the track that McCain is talking about without ultimately reissuing the draft. And that’s another reason why this election is so important, particularly for young people. For you, it’s a do-or-die election.

I don’t understand how anyone can claim that she’s a feminist. Is it because she’s cute and feisty and spunky? Is it because she carries a gun and shoots animals from a helicopter? That’s not feminism — that’s the worst aspect of violent male behavior. I think she completely compromises the idea of feminism. And I think it’s a cheap shot to compare her to Hillary Clinton. They don’t have anything in common. I mean, when you get a woman in government, you want the right woman. You don’t want just any vagina!

French Former Sexpot, Bridgett Bardot:

“I hope you lose these elections because that would be a victory for the world,” Bardot wrote in an open letter to Republican John McCain’s running mate in the November vote.

“By denying the responsibility of man in global warming, by advocating gun rights and making statements that are disconcertingly stupid, you are a disgrace to women and you alone represent a terrible threat, a true environmental catastrophe,” wrote Bardot.

Taking Sandy Bernhard’s cue that this Palin-bashing thing may help her “career”, Maggie Cho says:

“I think [Palin] is the worst thing to happen to America since 9-11,” Cho said. “Someone who has no thoughts about women’s rights and who wants to send women back to the Stone Age? You might as well not let women vote. I came out of the Democratic convention feeling so proud and excited, but now I fear that our country is so backwards in so many ways and the ignorance that exists is greater than we can even imagine.”

“The reach of homophobia and hatred is so wide, it’s disturbing how deep it is,” Cho said. “Now with Sarah Palin, who is so anti-gay and advocated camps for them to go to be brainwashed, she is a real sign of something very wrong with this country, a real problem. We are battling homophobia on so many fronts.”

She worries that the Republicans will “probably fix the election again” and feels that their vice-presidential pick of Sarah Palin was meant to “appease disgruntled Hillary voters.” In Cho’s opinion, the consequences of voting for the so-called “pitbull with lipstick” will be disastrous.

Rosie O’Donnell, whose PDS presents itself in the form of poetry:

oh it gets better and better
as america finally wakes
sarah p – harriet miers
with a better ass

Vagina spokeswomyn and self-proclaimed cunt, Eve Ensler:

[E]verything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story — connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.

Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist’s baby or not.

She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.

Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.

The earth, in Palin’s view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, ‘It was a task from God.’

“This girl is dangerous to me. This is a very dangerous woman, because I believe for her intents and purposes, she’s OK if everybody lives a certain way, that is to say, the way God ordained men and women to be. Well, already she’s breaking that because she’s the daddy. She’s going to run the country and the husband is going to take care of the kids. I just found the whole thing sad and very musty and very much like a Bund rally, but maybe that was just me.”

“I also thought that this idea of America first coming from her was kind of strange because she was one of the people who wanted to succeed from the United States. She was part of a campaign to succeed Alaska from the United States of America.”

Joy Behar:

The thing about Sarah Palin is that she needs to come out, come out, come out where ever you are Sarah because we need to hear from you. Do you believe in creationism, that it should be taught in the schools? Do you believe that you should be shooting wolves from the air?

Do you believe that you want to roll back all of the policies of the last 50, 60 years? I’d love to have her on so that she can express herself to the American women out there because there is a lot of stuff going around. I mean, I read yesterday, I read something on the internet, right, that she had shot 40 caribou in one day. Now, I found, I checked my facts, I was on CNN last night, I checked it. It was not true. She does go out hunting caribou and she does shoot wolves from the air. She does not care about the polar bears. In fact, she’s sued the Bush administration because they have said that the polar bears were endangered species and that would interrupt the drilling in Alaska. So she’s not pro-animal. I think people should know that. I want to hear from her. What do you think about all of this? But she is out- she’s going on Charlie Gibson. She should be all over the place defending her positions.

“Is our country so divided that the Republicans’ best hope is a narrow-minded, media-obsessed homophobe?”

“I find it quite interesting that a woman who now is running to be second in command of the United States, only four years ago had aspirations to be a television anchor. Which is probably all she is qualified to be.”

I believe John McCain chose Gov. Palin because he truly believes that women who supported Hillary—an experienced, brilliant, life-long public servant–would vote for him because his Vice President has two x chromosomes.

McCain’s selection of Governor Palin is a transparent and irresponsible decision all in the name of trying to win this election.

Hollowod Has-Been, Never-Was, Sandra Bernhard:

Now you got Uncle Women, like Sarah Palin, who jumps on the s–t and points her fingers at other women. Turncoat b—h! Don’t you f–kin’ reference Old Testament, bitch! You stay with your new Goyish crappy shiksa funky bulls–t! Don’t you touch my Old Testament, you b—h!

Because we have left it open for interpre-ta-tion! It is no longer taken literally! You whore in your f–kin’ cheap New Vision cheap-ass plastic glasses and your [sneering voice] hair up. A Tina Fey-Megan Mullally brokedown bulls–t moment.

SB went on [as the WaPo described it.]: Sandra warns Sarah Palin not to come into Manhattan lest she get gang-raped by some of Sandra’s big black brothers

Skank singer, Pink:

“This woman hates women,”

She is not a feminist. She is not the woman that’s going to come behind Hillary Clinton and do anything that Hillary Clinton would’ve been capable of … I can’t imagine overturning Roe vs. Wade. She’s not of this time. The woman terrifies me.”

“If I were writing a letter to Sarah Palin it would be a lot of whys and hows. Who are you? Do you know? Why do you hate animals? Please point out Iraq on a map …”

“I can’t imagine shooting a wolf out of a helicopter,”

PETA Hypocrite and Hepatitus C incubator Pamela Anderson:

“I can’t stand her. She can suck it.”

Sarah Palin is frightening! She went to the library in her home town and asked how one went about getting offensive books removed from it[offensive to her I presume] Guess she hasnt heard about freedom of speech and the press. Her husband pals around with a seccessionist who hates America and wants Alaske to secede from the Union, then accuses Obama of paling around with terrorists. She,s a skank, and her appoint as VP canidate reflects McCains poor judgement, that he would choose someone so unprepared and unqualified, just so he could maybe attract some of the shallowest of women voters. I am a woman, and Id like to see a woman in the whitehouse, but I want it to be a QUALIFIED woman, not just any skank they can drag off the street. I think a bad choice in women would be more damaging to the women’s cause than failing to elect a woman at this time would be.
